South Africa's second quarter GDP contracts 0.2% q/q 08-Sep 17:18

South Africa's economy contracted ​0.2% in the ‌second quarter of 2026 in ​seasonally adjusted quarter-on-quarter ​terms, statistics agency ⁠data showed on ​Tuesday.

Economists polled by ​Reuters had forecast that gross domestic product (GDP) ​would shrink ​0.1% (ZAGDPN=ECI), compared to revised growth ‌of ⁠0.4% in the first quarter of this year.

On ​a ​year-on-year ⁠basis, GDP grew 0.9% ​in April-June, ​also ⁠worse than economists' forecast for 1.2% ⁠growth (ZAGDPY=ECI).
